Iowa Fly Fishing Guides, Fishing Guides & Charters*

*A note about the guides I link to - I'm only going to list folks I've fished with or know REALLY well. I've always considered a link to a guide to be my personal endorsement; I'm not going to send YOU to someone I don't know firsthand (and therefore can't really recommend).

  • Rambling Reports Guide Services - Yes, you can hire me to guide you on one of the over 50 Iowa Inland Trout Streams. Check out the Guide Section to learn more.

  • The Fatman! (WI) - based in WI, you may know him as Fishin Fatman, Fish Fat, Fatman's Flyfishing Guides, Fatman's Fly Fishing Guide Service or even just "FAT", but regardless of the nicknames Rich Brown is an awesome guide and will always be one of my first recommendations!

Rich is the man who I owe a HUGE debt of gratitude for first introducing me to the Iowa Trout Streams in 2003 (our first 3-day trip started 5-30-03). During the summer when we don't have any steelhead / salmon action going on here, Rich usually holds 4 extremely affordable on the water fly fishing school weekends at his basecamp in Dorchester, IA. These classes are ideal for beginners (they are SIMPLY awesome, for an example of a weekend check out 5-22-04 and 5-23-04). You will usually find me at these school dates helping out where I can! Fishin' Fatman also offers "tag along" slots at these schools for more experienced anglers, as well as private day trips for someone wanting a different guided experience.

  • Creekside Outfitters (IN) - In addition to being the Indiana Tributary guru, Dave also fishes IA a couple times a year and runs destination trips to the Northeast Iowa Trout streams, so if you live down that way and are wanting a change of scenery, get on board his next Iowa Trip! Dave usually bases these trips out of Highlandville. We ran into Dave out there on one of our trips (6-8-03)...it's always a pleasure to share water with Dave.

Other Iowa Links Of Interest

  • Stream Fishing in Iowa - Andy Jenkins personal site is part fishing reports, part how-to, part destination articles and ALL about Iowa Trout!

  • 7 Rivers Online - The "Coulee Region" link directory - a great place to find lodging and other things to do while in the area!

  • Big Joe's Campground - sent to me by Shawn Boesen - a couple cabins, RV spots. Ideal for those looking for "higher end" lodging I suspect. Haven't stayed there personally.

  • Bear Creek Cabins - again, sent to me by Shawn Boesen - another nice set of cabins to consider if you're looking for that more private type of lodging. Haven't stayed there personally.
