Minnesota Fly Fishing Guides, Fishing Guides & Charters*

*A note about the guides I link to - I'm only going to list folks I've fished with or know REALLY well. I've always considered a link to a guide to be my personal endorsement; I'm not going to send YOU to someone I don't know firsthand (and therefore can't really recommend).

  • The Fly Guys - Brian Swartling and Todd Olson are a blast; when planning our first trip out in SE MN they decided that since it was just going to be a fun outing for all of us, we'd have to hit the hardest, most humbing stream in the state. 2 out of the three of us had got our asses handed to us that day by some of the most difficult trout I've fished. Read all about it in the report from 9-5-04. What else can I say other than I look forward to sharing the water with these guys again - especially considering that some of the MN streams are only minutes way from FAT's basecamp in Dorchester, IA (see the IA links).

Minnesota Fly Shops / Tackle Shops

  • Bentley's Outfitters - sent in by a RR Reader, to quote "They also have been very helpful to me...site includes photos of the shop, classes offered, trips offered, you can also post pictures if rivers in Minnesota"

  • Stewart Fishing Co. - another sent in by a RR Reader - "Stewart Fishing Company in Red Wing Minnesota. They're closer than anybody else to the SE minnesota streams, and the fellow who owns it, Brian Stewart is very generous with "where to fish" information. He also keeps a website BB that sees regular reports on fish in the stream..."

  • The Fly Angler & Thorne Bros Custom Rod & Tackle - yet another set of links from a RR Reader - Put these two co-located shops together and you have a formidable, all purpose angling experience. The fly shop offers everything you could ask for including rod building, repair and do-it-yourself build stations right in the store. PLUS, lots of great destination fly trips for everything from inland trout to bone fishing hosted by highly knowledgeable staff.

  • Lester River Fly Shop - man you guys rock! Another RR Reader Recommendation. Located "in Duluth...have generally been very helpful with local patterns. 308 E Superior St DULUTH, MN 55802-2120 - Phone - (218) 727-1789"

Other Minnesota Links Of Interest

  • TheHawgTrough - These boys have really gone a different route in organizing their site..not really up-to-the minute reports, but stories "about the destination & the journey", organized by TYPE of fishing and then WHERE you go to do it. For MN, check out:
    MN Trout Streams
North Shore Minnesota Lake Superior Tributaries

  • Sershen.com - lots of random cool fishin' stuff gathered by Heath (a RR Reader) here...reports with maps, entemology and more!

  • Roughfish.com - Suggested by a RR reader and I wholeheartedly agree with his recommendation. "You might scoff at this, but Roughfish.com is a really cool site. The also have a BB frequented by (mostly) minnesota fly anglers"

  • 7 Rivers Online - The "Coulee Region" link directory - a great place to find lodging and other things to do while in the area!
