Rambling Reports Guiding Seasons
Below is a timing chart that should give you a
general idea of the best times for certain species you may wish
to target. I tend to focus my guide scheduling around those "black
squares" - the peak times. For tributary fishing, this can
make or break a trip. For Inland fishing, fish populations pretty
much consistent throughout the year - my peak times are those times
when it's best to focus on these fisheries.

First and foremost, I am hopelessly in love with
tributary fishing for Salmon, Steelhead and Brown Trout. If the
WI Tributaries are hot, you'll have a hard time getting me to go
anywhere else!
In the midyear off season for Tributary Fishing
(roughly May through August), it's an excellent time to focus on
Inland Fishing, both coldwater trout fishing and warmwater lakes.
In the depths of winter, great fly fishing can still be had on open
Inland Trout Waters in IA and WI (yes, there are actually some trout
waters that open Jan. 1 in WI - you don't HAVE to go to IA).
