What a weekend. I left work early at 2:00 and got
to Burlington just before 3:45. FAT was ready and waiting with Chief
and Dutton; Greg was all set and we were off by 4:00!
3 hours later we were in Prairie du Chien and Cabela's.
Plenty of cool stuff to see & buy, but this wasn't supposed
to be a LONG visit! We got in, got what we needed, got our Iowa
licenses and headed out!
Another 45 minute drive and we were at our "quick
fix" for the evening, the Sny Magill. Comparable in size to
some of the "driftless area" streams we had seen last
week in SW WI with easy access. The Sny Magill is stocked mostly
with Rainbows, but also some Brown and Brook trout.
We weren't going to fish for long, as it was already
dusk by the time we got on the water. I headed upstream along with
Greg, while FAT, Dutton and Chief went downstream to fish the glow-bobbers.
My first and only fish came probably 10 casts in;
I was tossing MP's Antron in Herring, size 18. It was already too
dark to spot fish, so I blindly worked the runs and lanes, and found
my fish in the gut of a small pool. Quite a fight for a fish of
his size, I brought a 12" rainbow to shore in short order.
Unfortunately, pics were out of the questions for two reasons. First,
it was DARK. Second, the fish did the old C & R at the bank.
Man I gotta get a net!
