We woke up to a rather cool, misty morning. Low
on firewood, kinda tired still, FAT and I headed out to gather wood.
I don't know why, but for whatever reason most
of us were just not in the mood to fish at this point, so we mostly
just sat around camp. At times a strong breeze picked up and swept
through camp, blowing all our stuff all over the place.
Well, we had breakfast, and then lunch, before
finally giving it another go. By now the Chinooks were starting
to show up in semi-fair numbers, but there was a downside. All sorts
of folks were keeping fish...there were like 50 carcasses floating
downstream of camp. To make matters worse, as we fished that evening
I watched LOCALS who were blatantly snagging and KEEPING fish.
So Saturday basically sucked in my book. I can't
recall anyone hooking up with anything; the only fish I got to chase
were a couple of hunkered down Pinks...no interest in a fly. It
rained on and off throughout the day however. Most of our fishin'
buddies actually left midday...the sight of snagging, rain, and
thin fish wasn't worth sticking around for.
MS2 decided he was a tad homesick, and since he
was my ride we packed it up and headed out just before dark. It
was indeed a great camping trip despite the fact the fish were thin...I
still think we were just too early this year. I DEFINITELY WILL
BE BACK to try again!
