2-27-04 - Secretly I was hoping for crystal clear water and a couple steelhead on gravel...but I knew I'd probably more-than-likely see this.

The flats downstream are still totally frozen.

The lagoon; these guys are only 50% nuts for fishing on a day like today.

The mouth of the Pike is definitely pumping a serious homing beacon out into Lake Michigan.

How can I resist....this is the time of year when things can go from BAD to FANTASTIC in just a few days! Well, staying at LC is closer than Chicago when I teach on Thursday nights, so my plan was to get up around 5:00 am and fish again, prior to work. Granted, sleeping through the alarm for 2 hours doesn't really fit into that tight schedule!

So I rambled around the Pike for all of maybe 45 minutes, just checking things out. Didn't sight squat! The important info I can provide? 1. Upstream is mostly ice free and flowing. 2. Downstream is still totally frozen over. 3. The lake is open. 4. The water temps were consistently 32F.

NOT YET Folks! Better off spending this day IN the office so I can maybe spend a day NOT in the office later....
