6-16-04 - GD Mosquitos again!
Waters Fished: Root River
Fish Caught: 0
Outing Date: 6-16-04
Weather: Hazy, brief rain
Air Temp: upper 70's
Water Temp: 70F
Water Level: about 300 cfs
Water Color: muddy, 6" visibility
Fish Species: you mean there's FISH IN THE RIVER?!
Pattern Fished: Flying bunnies
Pattern Color: hot pink, chartreuse, black, purple etc..
Fishing Quality: Better than not fishing.
A short outing, got there at 7:30, left at 9:00
when the mosquitos became too much to bear. Fishing was definitely
"fishing" and not "catching".
So a little background...Indiana's Skamania runs
are in full swing, yet no one is checking the Root which also gets
Skamania. So finally I bit the bullet and went to see for myself.
The two anglers I was supposed to go with, well, one got stuck at
home and I missed the other. OH WELL...it was STILL a better evening
than sitting here behind the computer screen getting into another
online debate about something fly fishing related. Oh but if you
like carp, apparently the guys upstream were hooking...er...snaggin
them. Alright FOULING them...not enough clarity to intentionally
snag I guess.
NO SKAMANIAS at this time folks. 70F water pretty
much ensures that in my book, and even if they were there, they're
probably feeling pretty SICK. It only takes 5 hours to get to Horlick
if your a steelhead...probably even less if your LEAVING 'cause
the water is too warm.
