This one is a SHORT SHORT SHORT report! It's a
10 hour drive from the Chicago area to Sugar Lake, MN. We arrived
sometime in the evening, and after getting a tour of the new house
(in progress) I managed to excuse myself to the water for a bit.
According to the MDNR, Sugar Lake has a fair population
of Northern Pike, but on this day I didn't encounter any. My time
was short (dinner was being prepared) and I was limited to the dock;
most of the water is only a couple feet deep and sandy bottom.
Of course, hordes of bluegills swirled at my feet,
chasing anything that hit the water. No luck on bass or northerns
even though I focused casts on every little bit of structure I could
find (including the dock under my feet). Tomorrow I'd have a LOT
more time on the water.
