Talk about a COLD morning. It's Tuesday, 6:00 AM
and I can see my breath when I get out of the car to meet Dan at
the Milwaukee. WHY would we be fishing ANYWHERE ELSE (considering
current flows elsewhere)?
On the walk downstream I gave Dan an overview of
the area and the tactics we'd use. We stood on the gravel counting
down the minutes to legal fishin' time. Fish swirled and splashed
all around us. For now, we'd have to probably fish more by sound
than sight.
HA - Dan had NO PROBLEM getting the hang of things.
Within minutes Dan had his first King Salmon to shore - not HUGE
but a nice way to get a monkey off your back!
Unlike yesterday, today was CLOUDY and it made
a BIG difference. I still don't think we're at the peak of the run;
there probably weren't anymore fish than yesterday. Without the
sun though, these fish just KEPT BITING.
Dan, well Dan had a field day - easily 30 or 40
legitimate strikes in our morning guide. #2 was a BRUISER buck,
the kind of fish ANYONE would be proud to land, especially on a
fly rod.
Well guys, I hate to do this to you but as usual,
there's really not much to say other than WE SLAMMED 'EM. When our
guide was "over", I got on the water for a few minutes,
looking to get that skunk off my back as well. Of course, I didn't
just want ANY fish, I wanted the freshest fish I could find. The
first two, well, SCHOOLED ME. Of course I end up with a buck on
the lower side of the teens at best, but WHO am I to complain...that
was 15 minutes of fishing!
