Custom Built Fly Rods, Centerpin Rods and
more by MP
I am a Guild Certified Professional Custom Rod
Builder and member of the Custom
Rod Builder's Guild. I occasionally have some time to build
some rods for folks when I'm not guiding or fishing (most winter!)!
More information at the bottom of the page!
The gallery below contains every rod I've built, starting at the
top with the earliest builds..new builds are always added at the
bottom.
At this time (Dec. '05) I am pretty backed up
with repairs and new rods. I will still consider special/interesting
projects, but otherwise consider me "booked solid" until
summer, or winter, of '06!.
Here's the deal, I'm not making ANY money on the
components side, only charging for my labor to build your rod. I'm
happy to build with any components you like!
Guide Wrapping Rates for Single Foot Fly /
Spinning (SF) and Traditional Snake Guides / Casting (DF):
One Color Wraps (machine wrapped):
Two Color Wraps (hand wrapped):
Three Color Wraps (hand wrapped):
Decorative Wrapping Rate - $20/hr
labor. Average Rates for the following:
Open Diamond Wraps - $40-60
Full Cheveron Wraps - $80
Inscription Blocks - $10
Custom Turned Cork Rates - $3
per inch + cost of materials. A typical 7" handle runs around
$25.
Component Fees
- retail cost of components; if items are currently on-sale the
savings will be passed along to you! You are welcome to purchase
your own components and have them shipped to me (please review the
components with me first to ensure you're getting the right materials).
Alternately, I am happy to handle the ordering for you.
Repair Work & Warranty
- same rates as above for whatever section(s) need to be rebuilt-
all components are covered by manufacturer's warranties. Replacement
components not covered under warranty will need to be replaced at
cost. Email with details for a quote. Really the only problem I've
EVER had with a rod I built is the extended butt models where the
reel seat comes unglued. Worksmanship defects such as this are not
charged.
What you need to do:
First, pick all of your components. I will be happy
to assist you in this; i.e. I have many reel seats and grips on-hand,
ready to go. You'll need to pick the following:
Rod Blank
Reel Seat
Grip
Winding Check
Hook Keeper
Guides / Tip Top
Guide Wraps (color(s) and
style)
Decorative Wraps (if
desired)
Inscription
Once we've picked everything we'll gather everything
up. The cost of all components must be covered before I get started.
I may ask you to order directly through a vendor such as Hook &
Hackle, or I may simply ask for payment on the component portion,
whichever is easier for both of us. Payment for labor etc. is due
at the time of completion.
Please feel free to email
me with your ideas and questions!
